Thanks for the survey; I participated. Networking is crucial to a career in astronomy, and students and advisors need the right balance of sociable interactions yet without inappropriate behavior occurring. Therefore, to help improve the validity of the survey, I would have liked to have seen some questions that could establish a baseline. For example: "Student asks advisor how to reduce telescope data -- appropriate or inappropriate?" as well as the other end of the spectrum: "Student asks advisor for letter of recommendation; advisor then propositions student -- appropriate or inappropriate?"

I also enjoyed the list of "favorite quotes" and really appreciated the survey having the free-form answer/comment fields.

Good work! I'm curious to see if your hypothesis, that cross-gender advising relationships lead to an increased perception of inappropriate behavior, holds up in other fields of science, including those that are dominated by women.

And now I've linked my endowed chair title from my webpage back to this!

My first paper acknowledging the Chair's "support" should be on the arxiv very soon. Sadly, the first paper I completed after receiving the chair was for PRL which has very strict page limits, and my co-authors weren't happy about sacrificing the word space for this acknowledgment. Since the bulk of the work on that paper was done without the Chair's support, I reluctantly acquiesced. No more, though!
